Bifidobacteria (probiotic bacteria) normally present in the gastrointestinal tract are called intestinal microflora. Microflora of infants is mainly composed of these bacteria and they are considered essential in the first months of life. They maintain a healthy acid-base balance required for normal functioning of the digestive enzyme stop the growth of harmful bacteria affect intestinal environment movements (peristalsis) and promote the development of the immune system.
