About Cariprazine: Second-Generation Atypical Antipsychotic other antipsychotics. Mechanism of Action of Cariprazine: The mechanism of action of cariprazine in schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder is unknown. However the efficacy of cariprazine could be mediated through a combination of partial agonist activity at central dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors and antagonist activity at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. Cariprazine forms two major metabolites desmethyl cariprazine (DCAR) and didesmethyl cariprazine (DDCAR) that have in vitro receptor binding profiles similar to the parent drug Indications for Aripiprazole 1.Treatment of schizophrenia in adults 2.Acute treatment of manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder in adults Interactions for Cariprazine: Carbamazepine rifampicin: decrease the level or effect of cariprazine by affecting hepatic/intestinal enzyme CYP3A4 metabolism. Contraindicated. Itraconazole Ketoconazole: will increase the level or effect of cariprazine by affecting hepatic/intestinal enzyme CYP3A4 metabolism.
