About Nateglinide Meglitinide Derivative Oral Antidiabetic Agent. Mechanism of Action of Nateglinide It is a quick and short acting antidiabetic drug which exerts it`s action by stimulating insulin release from ?-cells of pancreas. It acts by binding to sulfonylurea receptor and to other distinct receptors and closes ATP dependent potassium channels and thus causes depolarization. This depolarization of pancreatic ? cells causes opening of Ca channels and increased Ca influx which induces insulin secretion. Indications for Nateglinide 1. Non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (as adjunct to diet and exercise) Interactions for Nateglinide Nsaids salicylates MAOIs and non selective beta-adrenergic blocking agents: May potentiate the hypoglycaemic effects. Thiazides corticosteroids thyroxine and sympathomimetics: May reduce the hypoglycaemic effects.
