Properties: This effervescent is mainly indicated to inhibit the formation of calcium oxalate crystals. Magnesium ions combine with oxalate ions to form magnesium oxalate which is not absorbed from the gastro - intestinal tract & is excreted in the stools. On the other hand citrate ions inhibit the formation of calcium containing crystals. Indications: Cases of hyper-oxaluria . Patients prone to recurrent renal stones. It may also be used as a mild laxative. Contraindications: Cases of impaired renal function.
