OVERVIEW: Cranberry is an Anti- Adhesin Agent which reduces the incidence of recurrent Urinary tract infection. Pharmacological Action: Cranberry extract have been proven effective for treatment of urinary tract infections in a number of clinical trials due to its content of proanthcyanidins Hippuric acid and plant acids. Cranberry irreversibly inhibits P-fimbriae of E-coli by attachment of the fimbria to the uroepithelium. Furthermore the presence of plant acids like benzonic maleic quinic & hippuric minimize the bacterial growth in the urinary tract. Cranberry help reduce the recurrence of UTI by preventing the adherence of uropathogens on uroepithelium & their colonization. Indications/ Uses: -Cranberry is indicated to help in Uncomplicated UTI including acute cases of cystitis and urethritis and pyelonephritis alone or in combination with proper antibiotic. -Cranberry is helpful for patients highly susceptible to frequent & recurrent UTI.
