Description: Azithromycin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic of the azalide class. Mechanism of action Azithromycin binds to the 50S subunit of the 70S bacterial ribosomes and therefore inhibits RNA-dependent protein synthesis in bacterial cells. Indication: for treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by the following organisms: Haemophilus influenza - Staphylococcus aureus - Streptococcus mitis group - Streptococcus pneumoniae - CDC coryneform group G Dose: 1 drop twice daily 8-12 hours apart for the first 2 days then 1 drop once daily for the next five days
