About ParoxetineSA selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) Anti-depressant.SMechanism of Action of ParoxetineSParoxetine blocks the re-uptake of neurotransmitter Serotonin from the synapse in to the presynaptic nerve terminal in the CNS. This will prolong the action of Serotonin (5HT) and it is useful in the treatment of depression. SIndications for ParoxetineS1. Depression S2. Obsessive compulsive disorder S3. Panic disorder S4. Social anxiety disorder SInteractions for ParoxetineSMonoamine oxidase inhibitors: Avoid concomitant use since serious sometimes fatal reactions have been reported. Paroxetine hydrochloride should not be used in combination with a MAOI or within 14 days of discontinuing treatment with MAOI. SWarfarin: Concomitant administration should be undertaken with caution. SDrugs affecting hepatic metabolism: The metabolism and pharmacokinetics of paroxetine may be affected by the induction or inhibition of drug metabolizing enzymes. S
