About MAGNESIUM SULPHATE Saline Laxative Osmotically acting Mechanism of Action of MAGNESIUM SULPHATE Oral: Magnesium sulfate increases peristaltic activity by causing osmotic retention of fluids thus resulting in bowel evacuation. Parenteral: Magnesium sulfate decreases levels of acetylcholine in motor nerve terminals.
